Castlemaine Congregation
Location. Castlemaine Congregation is located at 8-12 Lyttleton Street, Castlemaine, near the junction of Lyttleton and Kennedy Streets.
Sundays. Services are held at 10.30am. If it's the fifth Sunday in the month, Castlemaine joins the Harcourt congregation in combined worship. The service will start at the same time, 10.30am, but the service might occur at another place. Please check our News page for the venue.
Services are framed by the Revised Common Lectionary readings of the day. The Revised Common Lectionary is a three year cycle of Bible readings following the seasons of the Christian Year.
A lot of singing takes place to the accompaniment of a doughty trio playing organ, piano and trombone.
The fourth Sunday in the month is a day of Creative Worship when the musical component of the service takes on a more contemporary feel. The congregation is blessed by a number of people within it with quite extraordinary musical talents.
Children are very welcome at Sunday services and particular attention is given to them to help them to participate and be included.
Church history. Castlemaine Uniting Church, which was built in 1894, was the Castlemaine Presbyterian Church before the Uniting Church was formed in 1977.
When the Chapel was constructed in 2003, the beautiful stained glass window pictured top-right was installed. This had formerly been located in the Castlemaine Methodist Church, another of the Castlemaine churches that came into the Uniting Church in 1977.
Weekly Prayer. Every Tuesday from 11.00 to 11.30am, Castlemaine Church is open for prayer for our world, for our church for each other.
Giving is done freely and according to a person's means from a desire to support our church locally and throughout its wider structures. People still make a weekly contribution in the Offering during Sunday service, but EFT is increasingly popular. Account name: Castlemaine Uniting Church, BSB: 633-108 (Bendigo Bank), Account number: 183839406.
Another opportunity to share is the grocery collection that is taken every Sunday and then delivered to the Castlemaine branch of St Vincent de Paul.
